CHRISTMAS ’99 RHYME TIME

[the original mailing had comics... view it here.]

Our family once again sends greetings, to friends both near and far,
With a wish for a joyous Christmas, no matter where you are!
The year’s been as full as ever, with no two days the same.
Our busyness self-inflicted; there’s no one else to blame.

Our most important hope is that this letter finds you well,
The year’s flown by so quickly, and we have much news to tell.
But we’ll keep it short and simple, concise and to the quick,
Like a “Reader’s Digest” version of “This Year with Barb & Rick”!

Barb’s been looking for a change; has taken steps this year
Applied with the local School Board; (her police check results: “all clear”)!
She’s taken a course in Primary Ed.,and paid her teacher’s dues,
Supplying to start but she’d like her own class, what has she got to lose?

Other than that Barb is still teaching privately, at home, on piano and flute.
And the symphony keeps her busy, with concerts and festivals to boot!
And being a full-time mom is a task which she never takes too lightly,
The challenge of raising four teenagers;… sometimes it’s a little “unsightly”!

James spent the summer at Camp again, teaching the young cadets “Band”
He gives lessons on Clarinet and Sax, at a store called “Musicland”
Since passing his driving test, now he’s a help, with getting kids here and there,
Has University on his mind, the endless question..”Where”?

The girls are still singing for various gigs, like coffee houses and such.
School Choirs and Assembly solos, makes one wonder how much is too much?
They’ll be singing downtown once again, part of New Year’s Eve’s “First Night”.
They’ve been working hard on their repetoir, and their going to do “all right!”

All three girls are also involved in school plays, rehearsals are now in full swing.
And we’ll find out soon enough I suppose, “can they act as well as they sing?”
Clara, Angie and Katherine, share a common desire to sing,
Their dream is for a chance to make a compact disc recording!

Now Rick’s life doesn’t change too much, from year to year to year,
Same job, same pay, same school, same choir; same favorite brand of beer.
But one event took place this year, well off the normal scene.
By being involved in a musical, my big break if you know what I mean.

The show was the musical “Joseph, and the amazing techicoloured dreamcoat”.
Sort of a golden opportunity, the kind I used to just dream ’bout.
I was cast as one of the brothers, and the baker in prison as well.
The experience is now but a memory, yet a happy one, this I can tell!

That is our very brief summary, of what marks the year ’99
And we’re not worried about Y2K, everything’s going to be fine.
Daisy our doggie sends kisses (well, licks), and joins us in wishing to you ,
A very merry Christmas, and a happy New Year’s too.

RICK, BARBARA AND FAMILY
